CFEC in the community

Just as the 7 cooperatives state, Central Florida Electric Co-op has concern for its community and it's members. CFEC works hard to support its community in various ways. Below you can view some of the events we participate in.

Lineman Light Up Christmas

The Guardian ad Litem Program is a dedicated team of people who advocate for children in Florida that have suffered abuse, neglect or abandonment and have been removed from a home because of this. These children are placed in the protection of the state and the child welfare system. The skilled and dedicated Guardian ad Litem team of mostly volunteers pledge their efforts to represent these children with compassion so that each child’s needs are met in court.

In December, CFEC’s Linemen participated in “Linemen Lighting Up Christmas.” Through the donations collected for this effort, they were able to purchase 16 bikes and helmets, plus 8 $50 gift cards. The pictures show the linemen doing the shopping, themselves. The gifts were then wrapped and delivered to the Guardian Ad Litem office in Chiefland.

Thanks to CFEC’s linemen and everyone that donated to the special cause of “Linemen Lighting Up Christmas,” a group of children were able to have a very Merry Christmas.

Safety Presentation at Cedar Key School

Education is a valuable part of Central Florida Electric Cooperative’s mission in the community. Recently, Jonathan Polk, CFEC Safety Loss/Prevention Coordinator and A.D. Goodman, Safety/Loss Control Specialist, visited Cedar Key School to talk with kids about being safe around electricity.

Using an energized model depicting various scenarios where kids might encounter power lines, kids were wide-eyed each time the line sparked and sizzled. Kids also saw all the safety gear Polk and Goodman had to wear to do the demonstration. The message that electricity is nothing to play with came through loud and clear.
