What happens when you lose service?
Assess System Damage
Restoring service to the greatest number of customers starts by assessing major fiber distribution lines that deliver service into the areas we serve.
Service Fiber Huts
The fiber huts are structures that house crucial equipment that is used to deliver service to specific areas. These huts are located at our substations. If power is out, Fiber by Central Florida will use generators to ensure power is maintained at our fiber huts, and address any damage caused to the hut from the storm.
Partner with CFEC
Our fiber lines are located on CFEC’s poles and require an active power supply. Once the power is restored, we are able to begin repairs to the fiber and start to restore service to our lines.
Restoration to Critical Infrastructure
Infrastructure like schools, police and fire departments are made a priority once service restoration begins.
Reconnecting Everyone
Technicians will begin restoration to individual homes that are still experiencing an outage after power is restored. These technicians will asses damage or identify areas where fiber may be down. This can be a timely process.

Fiber by Central Florida internet service will not work without power. Electrical power is required to operate devices in your home such as your TV, internet modem and home phone. Electrical power must be restored before our technicians can begin damage assessment and outage restoration. Typically fiber service is restored once the customer’s power is restored.
It is possible for your home or business to have power, but your fiber service may be experiencing an issue with the network serving your area. There could be damage to a fiber line serving your home or one of our fiber huts could be experiencing a power outage. There could also be connection issues between your home and the nearest utility pole serving your home. To ensure our team is aware of this, report your fiber outage here – Report a Fiber Outage – Fiber by Central Florida
- If your power has been restore and you are still experiencing a fiber outage, you may need to reset your equipment.
- Unplug your equipment (i.e, your modem)
- Wait 30 seconds
- Plug your equipment back into the power source
We strongly recommend our customers have a battery backup in place for continuation of your service during storms. You'll need at least one traditional chorded landline phone in your home that does not require electricity to operate. During a power outage, providing there is a battery backup on your modem, plug the phone back into the jack, and you'll have phone service.
