Understanding the CFEC Outage Map
During storm restoration efforts, we strive to provide timely updates through our outage map to keep you informed. However, in widespread restoration situations, our priority sometimes shifts toward restoring power rather than posting updates in real-time. The outage map is designed to give you a clearer understanding of our ongoing efforts and the status of power restoration in your area.
Accessing the Outage Map
You can access the outage map: On Our Website
Through the Power Partner App: Available for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
What to Expect During Widespread Outages
On a typical day, the outage map and Power Partner App provide real-time information. However, during widespread crises like hurricanes, the system may become overloaded, causing delays in updates or reduced accessibility. While these tools remain valuable resources, please keep in mind that restoration takes precedence over immediate data updates.
Key Features of the Outage Map
Outage Status Indicators
Once an outage is reported—whether by phone, through the Power Partner App, or automatically by the meter—it goes through several stages in our system:
- Under Investigation: When we first receive an outage report, it’s listed as “Under Investigation” and is classified as “Predicted.” The number of customers shown as affected is an estimate.
- Verified: Once our crews are able to assess the situation, the outage is marked as “Verified.” The affected area may expand if the issue is more complex than initially thought.
- Restored: After repairs are completed and power is back, the outage is marked as “Restored” and disappears from the map, though it will stay in the list until formally closed.
🔔 Keep in Mind – When you see “0” under restored outages, that doesn’t mean no one has had their power restored. We regularly clear restored locations from our system to make sure other critical functions run smoothly.
Planned Outages Tab
The “Planned” Outage tab on our outage map identifies specific outages that require extended coordination due to factors like flooding, damaged personal equipment, or the need for additional safety checks. These outages are not waiting on the cooperative for power restoration; rather, they are awaiting necessary repairs or conditions to be met before power can safely be restored.
Why Might My Reported Outage Be Missing?
During storm restoration, members may report an outage only to later see no outage listed for their location in the app or by phone. This can happen when power is restored to a general area, and the system temporarily groups everyone there as restored—even if downline issues like damaged equipment or trees are still causing outages for specific homes. In these cases, our CFEC dispatchers must manually “ping” each meter to re-account for remaining outages that weren’t resolved when the larger outage was restored. We know this can be frustrating, but rest assured all resources are focused on restoration, and we will always actively address every outage.
