Estimated Outage Restorations

Updated 09/01 10:15 a.m.

  • Levy County- CFEC expects to have to reach at least 95% restoration to members in Levy County by Saturday morning 09/02 at 11 a.m.

  • Gilchrist County- CFEC expects to reach at least 95% restoration to members in Gilchrist county by Saturday evening 09/02 at 9 p.m.

  • Dixie County- CFEC expects to reach at least 95% restoration to members by Sunday 09/03 by 9 p.m. 

  • Restoration to members in our coastal areas of Cedar Key, Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee where storm surge reached devastating heights, will take continued efforts and collaboration over the coming days as we rebuild those communities.

Outage Update

CFEC along with our contract crews and mutual aid have been working hard throughout the day and were able to restore power to several areas today. Crews are steadily making a dent in the number of outages in the CFEC service area and will continue to work through the evening. The screenshot here is an update from 5:30pm 8/31.

Crews are out and working

The storm has passed and CFEC is hard at work to restore outages and damage that occurred to our electrical grid. Hurricane Idalia caused serious damage to the CFEC service area but nothing that our crews can't handle! Please continue to avoid any down power lines or trees that may be on a line in your yard or on your property. Additional mutual aid and other resources have arrived today and started working. Thank you for your patience as we work to restore service!

Scattered Outages

CFEC is feeling the effects of Hurricane Idalia and currently we have 17,952 members without power. We will see more outages as the day progresses. CFEC Dispatch and Operations are working closely to monitor the system and deploy restoration crews when it is safe to do so. We recommend all members stay in their safe place and hunker down until the storm passes and conditions are safe.

Contract Crews to look for in the CFEC area

CFEC has several different crews onsite at the Chiefland headquarters ready to assist our line crews after the storm passes. These crews will work on repairing damage from trees, clearing debris and restoring power. Remember, never go near or touch an electrical wire that you see on the ground or hanging. Call CFEC to at 1-800-227-1302 to report the line, or call 911.

How CFEC is Preparing for Hurricane Idalia

CFEC initiated its Emergency Response Plan and is closely monitoring the path and potential impacts of Hurricane Idalia on the service area as it develops, preparing to respond quickly and safely. Line crews are prepared and ready to respond.

Tips on preparing your home

  • Assemble an emergency kit. It should include at least a three-day supply of water, non-perishable food, medication, first aid supplies, a flashlight, weather radio and extra batteries. Include a list of emergency contacts.

  • Charge your cell phone and have external, backup power sources charged.

  • Develop an evacuation plan in case it’s needed. Communicate the plan to your family. Include pets or livestock in your plan.

  • Secure outdoor items. Safely store lawn furniture, decorations, toys, garbage cans and other items that can be brought indoors.

  • Close windows and doors in the event of high winds.

  • Fuel up. Fill up your vehicles before the storm as a loss of power could affect gas stations.

  • Consider having supplies handy for your propane or charcoal grill. Be sure to grill outdoors in well ventilated areas for safety.

Generator Safety Tips

  • If you use a generator during the storm, it's important to know how to operate it safely and NEVER wire it to your home breaker panel or wiring system. This can cause back feeding into our distribution system, presenting a risk of fire and electrocution risk to you, electricians and utility workers while making repairs down the line.

  • Never run a generator in an enclosed space or indoors. Place the generator at least 20 feet away from your home with exhaust pointed away from the home to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. NEVER leave the generator inside your home.
